Heavy inventories, excessive markdowns, slow inventory turnover and tight cash are all very real issues that independent retailers wrestle with. In many cases, the issue is inadequate or inaccurate sales and inventory planning. Without highly reliable sales forecasts, independent retailers are left trying to strike a balance between carrying too little and too much stock.
